Tumble Dryer Repair across Glasgow

A tumble dryer that takes hours to dry a load, or doesn't heat at all, is usually suffering from a failed thermostat, heating element or blocked airflow. These are common, well-understood faults and often cost far less to fix than replacing the machine.

We repair vented, condenser and heat pump tumble dryers. Tell us the make, model and symptoms and we'll arrange an engineer.

Common tumble dryer faults

Not heating

A failed heating element, tripped thermal fuse or faulty thermostat is the usual cause on vented and condenser dryers.

Takes too long to dry

Blocked lint filters, clogged vents or condensers, or a weakening heating element will stretch drying times.

Drum not turning

A snapped drive belt, worn tensioner or failed motor stops the drum even though the dryer sounds like it's running.

Squealing or rumbling

Worn drum rollers, glides or bearings produce noise that gets worse over time.

Water tank keeps filling or leaking

On condenser and heat pump dryers, blocked drain hoses, full tanks or faulty pumps are common.

Stops mid-cycle or won't start

Door switches, thermal cut-outs and control boards can all interrupt a cycle.

What to check before you call

  • Switch off and unplug the dryer before checking anything.
  • Clean the lint filter every load and wash the filter mesh occasionally; fabric softener residue can clog it.
  • On condenser dryers, empty the water tank and clean the condenser unit as per the manual.
  • Check that the vent hose isn't crushed or blocked on a vented dryer.

Repair or replace?

Dryer repairs are often modest compared with the price of a new machine, especially for belts, elements, thermostats and rollers. Heat pump dryers are more complex but can still be worth repairing if relatively new.

How it works

  1. Tell us the fault

Call us or send the form with the appliance, make and what it's doing.

  2. We arrange an engineer

We match you with an engineer covering your postcode and agree a suitable visit time.

  3. Diagnosed and repaired

The engineer diagnoses the fault and explains the repair before work starts. Many repairs can be completed on the visit if parts are available.

Tumble Dryer Repair FAQs

Why is my tumble dryer not heating?

The most common causes are a failed heating element, a tripped thermal fuse or a faulty thermostat. A blocked vent or filter can also trigger safety cut-outs.

Is a slow tumble dryer dangerous?

Lint build-up is a genuine fire risk. Clean the filter every load and get a slow-drying dryer looked at rather than just running it longer.

Do you repair heat pump dryers?

Yes, as well as vented and condenser models. Tell us the make and model when you get in touch.

Is it worth repairing an old tumble dryer?

Usually, if the fault is a belt, element, thermostat or rollers. See the repair-or-replace guidance above.
