Washing Machine Repair across Glasgow

A washing machine that won't drain, spin or start is one of the most disruptive breakdowns at home. Most faults come down to a handful of parts: pumps, door locks, drive belts, motor brushes and bearings. An experienced engineer can usually diagnose the problem quickly.

Tell us the make, model and what the machine is doing and we'll arrange an engineer in your area. We repair freestanding, integrated and slimline washing machines and washer dryers.

Common washing machine faults

Not draining

Usually a blocked pump filter or a failed drain pump. Coins, hair grips and sock fluff are the usual culprits.

Not spinning

Worn motor carbon brushes, a snapped drive belt or a failed motor control board can all stop the drum spinning.

Door won't open or lock

A failed door lock/interlock or a fault signal from the control board will keep the door shut or stop the cycle starting.

Leaking water

Perished door seals, split hoses, a cracked pump housing or a loose detergent drawer fitting are the common sources.

Loud banging or grinding

Worn drum bearings or broken shock absorbers. Left too long, bearing failure can damage the drum, so don't ignore it.

Not heating or cold washes

A failed heating element or faulty temperature sensor (thermistor) will leave clothes washed cold.

Error codes or won't start

Fault codes on the display point towards the sensor, pump, heater or board involved, which speeds up diagnosis.

What to check before you call

  • Switch off at the socket before touching anything.
  • Check the pump filter (usually behind a small flap at the bottom front). Have towels ready for spilled water.
  • Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked or blocked and the machine isn't overloaded.
  • Note any error code on the display and the model number from the door frame or back panel.

Repair or replace?

As a rule of thumb, repair makes sense when the machine is under about 8-10 years old and the repair cost is well below half the price of a comparable new machine. Premium makes such as Miele, Bosch and Neff are often worth repairing for longer.

How it works

  1. Tell us the fault

Call us or send the form with the appliance, make and what it's doing.

  2. We arrange an engineer

We match you with an engineer covering your postcode and agree a suitable visit time.

  3. Diagnosed and repaired

The engineer diagnoses the fault and explains the repair before work starts. Many repairs can be completed on the visit if parts are available.

Washing Machine Repair FAQs

How much does a washing machine repair cost?

It depends on the fault and the parts needed, so the honest answer is that it varies. Give us the make, model and symptoms and the engineer can advise on the likely repair before work starts.

Do you repair all washing machine makes?

Yes. We repair all the major brands including Bosch, Siemens, Hotpoint, Indesit, Beko, Samsung, LG, Zanussi, AEG, Whirlpool, Miele and Neff.

My washing machine is full of water and won't drain. What should I do?

Switch it off at the socket, then check the pump filter and drain hose for blockages. If it still won't drain, book an engineer; a failed pump is a common cause.

Is it worth repairing my washing machine?

Often yes, if it's under around 8-10 years old and the fault is a common part like a pump, door lock or heater. See the repair-or-replace guide above.
